In a few months, the rule change that allowed for the creation of alternative business structures (ABS) in Arizona will turn three. And like any toddler, ABS has brought both delightful surprises and a few challenges to its “family,” the legal industry.
When the Arizona Supreme Court made this change, they wanted to fuel innovation in and increase access to legal services. This brought both legal tech innovators and private capital to Arizona to participate in a ground-breaking opportunity to increase access to justice. Our mission aligns with the Court’s goals, and the rule change was the final factor in Invenio’s decision to open operations earlier in Arizona this year so we could be part of this transformation, bringing our world-class expertise in alternative structures to bear to service clients where innovation thrives.
We continue to work closely with attorneys and non-legal partners alike, counseling them on whether and when the time is right to pursue an ABS, the practical impact of the elimination of Rule 5.4, and how to successfully navigate the developments in this rapidly changing space.
So when ABS turns three in January, we’ll be celebrating the birthday as a milestone. Here’s to many more years of legal transformation!
